2001 DAILY NEWS BERNIE MILLIGAN 25TH ANNIVERSARY: EAST NOTEBOOK: SEDDON PLANS TO ENJOY TIME.

Byline: Lee Barnathan Staff Writer

Bill Susdorf of Hart received more attention for his combination of hitting and pitching, and Art Ortiz of Lancaster hit more home runs this season than anybody.

But it was Canyon pitcher Chris Seddon Christopher Jon Seddon (born October 13, 1983 in Northridge, California) is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Florida Marlins. He was called up and made his Major League debut on September 3, 2007. External links

who found himself among the more popular East all-star players at the Bernie Milligan Daily News All-Star Game An all-star game is an exhibition game played by the best players in their sports league. The players are often chosen by a popular vote of fans of the sport and the game often occurs at the halfway point of the regular season, although this is not the case for some all-star games  practice Thursday at Sylmar High.

Seddon knew why: He was drafted Tuesday in the fifth round by Tampa Bay Tampa Bay, inlet of the Gulf of Mexico, 25 mi (40 km) long and 7 to 12 mi (11.3–19 km) wide, W Fla., separated from the Gulf by numerous small islands; it receives the Hillsborough River. St. , the highest area prep player taken in the draft. So he shook hands and said thanks whenever any of his East teammates congratulated him.

No one asked him for money, which he says his friends have been doing for three days.

``They've been hitting me up for months,'' he said. ``One guy said, 'You did this to me four years ago. I'm going to sue for a million dollars,' '' Seddon said. ``The day of the draft, they said, 'Where's my money?' I said, 'It's in the mail.' ''

Speaking of money, Seddon said he won't begin negotiations with the Devil Rays for at least a month because he wants to salvage salvage, in maritime law, the compensation that the owner must pay for having his vessel or cargo saved from peril, such as shipwreck, fire, or capture by an enemy. Salvage is awarded only when the party making the rescue was under no legal obligation to do so.  some of his senior summer. If talks stall, there's always that scholarship to Loyola Marymount waiting.

--Add draft: Seddon said he was happy just to be selected but thought Susdorf would have been chosen higher.

Susdorf thought so, too, until the first day went by and he went unclaimed through 20 rounds. That angered him, so he didn't pay attention to rounds 21-50 on the second day. He didn't get picked then, either.

Susdorf realized long ago his commitment to UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

Kennedy of Granada Hills catcher Phil Avlas was the only other East player drafted, being taken in the 24th round by Arizona. He said he won't think about signing until he sees his latest SAT scores in two weeks. If they're high enough, he will accept a scholarship to either Cal State Fullerton or Loyola Marymount.

``I think I did pretty good,'' Avlas said. ``That was the easiest one I took of the three (SATs) I took.''

--In the crowd: The practice was open to the public, so Cal State Northridge

assistant coach Steve Rousey attended. Rousey, also in charge of recruiting, completed his first year with the Matadors, but he joined in January and didn't get to watch many games because Northridge was in season.

``This was good for me,'' he said. ``I've got to get to know the guys.''

--Comings, goings: Valencia pitchers Richie Martin and Kyle Wilson didn't attend because the practice conflicted with their graduation. They will attend today's practice at Sylmar. Canyon's Seddon and Josh LaGrotta won't because they'll graduate at that time.
