KARL B. RUNDMAN, Professor, Michigan Technological Univ., receives the Thomas W. Pangborn Gold Medal for "dedication to the metalcasting industry, encouragement of engineering graduates of Michigan Technological Univ. to seek careers in the metalcasting industry and pioneering research in the field of austempered ductile iron Ductile iron, also called ductile cast iron or nodular cast iron, is a type of cast iron invented in 1943 by Keith Millis[1]. While most varieties of cast iron are brittle, ductile iron is much more ductile, as the name implies. ."

R. CONNER WARREN, executive vice president, Citation Corp., receives the Peter L. Simpson Gold Medal for "achievements of service in both the national and international arenas, which reflects credit on the metalcasting industry and for which the public esteem of the metalcasting community is enhanced."

AFS Awards of Scientific Merit

STEPHEN L. NELTNER, corporate manager of quality, Hill and Griffith Co., receives the AFS Award of Scientific Merit for his "numerous contributions to the scientific understanding of the metalcasting process through his active research on green sand properties and emission characteristics."

WILLIAM L. POWELL, manager- melting and metallurgy metallurgy (mĕt`əlûr'jē), science and technology of metals and their alloys. Modern metallurgical research is concerned with the preparation of radioactive metals, with obtaining metals economically from low-grade ores, with , Waupaca Foundry, Inc., receives the AFS Award of Scientific Merit for numerous process developments, technical transfer, and personal commitment to the American Foundry Society and the metalcasting industry."

HATHIBELAGAL M. ROSHAN, director of quality, Maynard Steel Casting Steel casting is a manufacturing process in which molten metal is poured into a mold, allowed to solidify within the mold, and then the mold is broken and the solid piece is taken out.  Co., receives the AFS Award of Scientific Merit for his "development of knowledge-based technology transfer that has improved casting quality and his lifelong contribution to advance technical knowledge for the benefit of the metalcasting industry."

CMI (Computer-Managed Instruction) Using computers to organize and manage an instructional program for students. It helps create test materials, tracks the results and monitors student progress.  Directors' Award

MICHAEL A. GWYN, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. , Pelton Casteel, Inc., receives the CMI Directors' Award for his "exceptional contributions to the Institute as an instructor and member of its faculty."

AFS Service Citations

STANLEY BASS, retired owner, Fort Worth Aluminum Foundry, Inc., receives the AFS Service Citation for his "many years of service to the American Foundry Society, the AFS Texas Chapter, the Texas Cast Metals Assn. and the metalcasting industry."

JAMES E. BROWN, president and CEO, Bremen Castings, Inc., receives the AFS Service Citation for his "leadership and unselfish commitment to advancing the metalcasting industry at the state and national levels."
