2000 charity staff face axe.

AROUND 2000 charity workers could be sacked over changes to pay and conditions.

Trade union Unison yesterday said all staff at Quarriers, who provide services for vulnerable children, were threatened with redundancy unless they agree to management proposals.

The union claim Quarriers want to cut staff nightshift and public holiday payments.

It was also claimed sick pay could be cut by 25 per cent for staff with fewer than five years' service.

 said: "Quarriers entered into a formal process of 90-day consultation with staff.

"Only as a last resort would consideration be given to the potential of all contracts being terminated and new contracts issued."
