200 facing jobs threat.


Around 200 jobs are under threat at an historic Tyneside car parts factory.

Vickers Pressings Tolwood Automotive (VPTA VPTA Vice President of Technical Activities ) on Scotswood Road, Newcastle, has called in the administrators.

The plant employs 195 people in Newcastle, another 111 in Newton Aycliffe and around 60 in the Midlands.

Vickers Pressings make car parts for the automotive industry. It recently merged with Tolwood of Newton Aycliffe to form VPTA.

 Administrator Richard Fleming said the firm was trading as normal.

Regional organiser for Amicus union, Gerry Hunter said: "We want to find a purchaser to keep these two really good companies alive and well."
