20 years: Northern Ontario Business Awards, Thunder Bay, on, October 5th 2006.


The 20th anniversary of the Northern Ontario Business Northern Ontario Business is a Canadian magazine, which publishes monthly in Greater Sudbury, Ontario. The magazine covers business news and issues in Northern Ontario.  Awards was celebrated in the city where it all began in 1986--Thunder Bay. Business, political and community leaders attended the October 5 Valhalla Inn gathering to witness the achievements of nine companies and individuals. Sudbury's globetrotting Robert Lipic of Mining Technologies International Inc. was named Entrepreneur of the Year for his 46-year mining career and as the president of Canada's largest mining equipment manufacturer and supplier.

"This recognition certainly makes the sacrifice we've made over the years so worthwhile. All those early mornings, long drives, late nights and long international flights really sums up what we've achieved."

The imaginative style and professionalism of Thunder Bay's DST (1) (DeSTination) Contrast with SRC, which is an abbreviation of "source."

Devlin furniture producer Kish-Gon-Dug took home the First Nations Business Award of Excellence.

Synergy Controls Corp. of Sudbury was recognized in the Innovation category and the leading edge Molecular World Corp., of Thunder Bay was the Judge's Choice selection.

Energetic marketing whiz Stephanie Ash of Thunder Bay's Firedog Communications Inc. was chosen as Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

"I've lived in many places around the world in my short 29 years," said the Birstall, England native, "and I can say with confidence that it really doesn't get any better than it does right here."

The Sault's Algoma University College Algoma University College is a postsecondary institution in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, offering undergraduate university degrees in more than 25 academic programs.

Algoma is currently an affiliated college of Laurentian University in Sudbury.

University of Guelph The University of Guelph is a medium-sized university located in Guelph, Ontario, established in 1964. While the U of G offers degrees in many different disciplines, the university is best known for its focus on life sciences, based in part on a long-standing history of  freshman and Whitefish whitefish: see salmon.
