The USBL will have eight teams in 2005, split evenly between the Midwestern Division and Eastern Division. The Midwest will feature the Kansas Cagerz, Oklahoma Storm, Dodge City Legend The Dodge City Legend is a semi-professional basketball franchise in the United States Basketball League, a minor league that plays in the spring. The Legend have won three USBL titles, in 2000, its first season, 2003 and in 2005.  and the expansion Nebraska team. The Eastern Division will be comprised of the defending USBL Champion Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs, Brooklyn Kings, Westchester Wildfire, and New Jersey Flyers. All eight teams will compete in the Post Season Festival in late June.

In 2005, teams will operate with more geographical efficiency. In the East all teams are within 100 miles of one another and in the Midwest Kearney, NE to Dodge City is 250 miles. By controlling expansion and relocation the USBL has helped teams cut expenses related to travel while promoting regional competitive rivalry. This should help the bottom line and increase interest in the regions for additional expansion teams in 2006. As each Division matures, expansion into new regions will become more feasible economically and financially for the USBL and its existing franchises.

2005 marks the 20th Anniversary of the USBL. As the USBL enters its next era, many efforts have been made to improve the league. USBL Management has made efforts to recruit ownership with sound financial standing and team management who share a direct strategic focus that parallels the League's commitment to stability and success.
