Didn't summer just start?

It feels like school let out only a few days ago, but now Labor Day Labor Day, holiday celebrated in the United States and Canada on the first Monday in September to honor the laborer. It was inaugurated by the Knights of Labor in 1882 and made a national holiday by the U.S. Congress in 1894.  is a mere four weeks away.

Sure, Labor Day isn't the official end of summer -- that comes Sept. 22. But the demands of school and work likely mean your family leisure time is wrapping up fast.

Here are some of our brightest ideas for the precious dog days you have left.

>HANG IN THERE: Take a hang-gliding lesson on Dockweiler State Beach Dockweiler State Beach is a California beach protected under the state park system.

Part of the park is located directly under the flight path of the immediately adjacent Los Angeles International Airport.
