2-5 Lithuania slip to shock defeat.

FAROE ISLANDS caused an 8-1 shock with a surprise 2-1 home success against Lithuania yesterday.

It was a miserable afternoon for any punter who backed Lithuania in singles, or more likely, multiple bets at a best-priced 2-5. Suni Olsen and Arnbiorn Hansen were the heroes for Faroes, and while Tomas Danilevicius had equalised Olsen's opener from the penalty spot, the hosts claimed a famous victory.

It got worse for favourite backers when 4-6 pokes Belgium lost 2-1 in Armenia and Sweden had their followers in a panic before sneaking a 1-0 victory away to minnows Malta.

The game was goalless for 81 minutes until an own goal from Ian Azzopardi saved the day for those who had punted Sweden at 1-10. There was no mistake from 1-100 shots Czech Republic, who thrashed San Marino 7-0. Ronnie Moore is odds-on (4-5) with Victor Chandler to make a return to management at former club Rotherham, while Mark Cooper has been backed from 3-1 to 5-2 to move into the vacancy at Northampton.

Cooper is currently at Kettering, while Ian Sampson is 4-1 to replace Stuart Gray, who was sacked on Tuesday.
