2 suspects nabbed after bank robbery.

WORCESTER - Two city men were arrested last night after allegedly robbing a Grafton Street bank yesterday afternoon, their success cut short to a mere six hours after they hit the bank and peeled out from a mini mall in a stolen pickup truck.

Sgt. Towns said at 12:51 p.m. Mr. Gilmore entered the Commonwealth National Bank, 1393 Grafton St., and passed a note to a female teller demanding cash. After she gave him money, he fled. The robbery was captured by the bank's surveillance video system.

Witnesses told police Mr. Gilmore drove away at a high rate of speed in a red Toyota Tundra The Toyota Tundra is a full-size pickup truck sold by Toyota, replacing the Toyota T100. It is similar to the Toyota Sequoia, and Toyota Tacoma. The Tundra was nominated for the North American Truck of the Year award and was Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the year for the year  pickup. He was accompanied by a second man. Sturbridge police had taken a stolen motor vehicle report yesterday for a pickup matching that description, police said.

Sgt. Towns said state police recovered the stolen pickup about 7 p.m. on Wayne Street. Mr. Gilmore and Mr. Young were stopped by Officers William W. Auger auger (ô`gər): see drill.

Both were taken to the Detective Bureau and placed under arrest at the conclusion of interviews, Sgt. Towns said.

The Commonwealth National Bank is located about a mile north of the Massachusetts Turnpike The Massachusetts Turnpike (commonly shortened to the MassPike or The Pike) is the easternmost 138-mile (222 km) stretch of Interstate 90. The Turnpike begins at the western border Massachusetts in West Stockbridge connecting with the Berkshire Connector portion of  entrance in Millbury. It is situated in a new mini mall with Mrs. Mack's Bakery and a few other businesses.

David Shute, 42, who owns Floors N' More, a tile shop a few doors from the bank, said he saw a man drive up in a maroon maroon, term for a fugitive slave in the 17th and 18th cent. in the West Indies and Guiana, or for a descendant of such slaves. He said he saw a man get out and peer into the bank before going inside. Another man remained in the passenger's seat, he said. He saw the truck race away a few minutes later.

"He just turned the tires while he was leaving," he said.
