2 militants, ANA officer killed in security incidents.

JALALABAD/QALAT (PAN): An Afghan National Army Afghan National Army (ANA) is a service branch of the Military of Afghanistan that is currently being trained by the to ultimately take the lead in land-based military operations.  (ANA) officer and two militants were killed and two policemen wounded during security incidents in three different provinces of the country, officials said on Tuesday.

The fighters were killed in overnight raids by Afghan and NATO-led soldiers in the Wazir Wazir may refer to:
  • Wazir (tribe), a Pashtun tribe in Waziristan
  • Haji Wazir, a prisoner at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba
  • Vizier, a high ranking official
 area on the outskirts of Khogiani district of eatern Nangarhar province, the town's administrative chief said.

Syed Rahman told Pajhwok Afghan News Maulvi Lal Mohammad and Mullah Matan were killed and three of their associates arrested during the operation.

Malik Nawab, a tribal elder from the area, confirmed the dead and detainees were Taliban loyalists. Some other individuals had been missing after the operation, he said.

The International Security Assistance Force media office verified the raid and said the Afghan-led offensive resulted in the death of two rebels and detention of three others.

Elsewhere, an ANA officer was killed in a roadside bombing in the Shah Joi district of southern Zabul province, the town's administrative chief said.

Mohammad Sadique added the incident took place late on Monday, when the soldier was trying to defuse bombs planted by militants under a culvert. The explosive device went off, killing him.

Meanwhile, two policemen were injured in a similar blast and two suspects detained for planting the bombs in northern Kunduz province.

The blast struck a police vehicle in the Sai See Statement of Additional Information.  Darak area of the 1st police district of Kunduz City, the provincial capital, said Syed Hussain Sarwari, provincial police spokesman.

Maj. Gen. Samiullah Qatra, the provincial police chief, said two suspected militants were arrested in the Chahel Tapa tapa: see bark cloth.  area on the outskirts of Sher Khan Bandar.

He said the two, involved in planting landmines targeting Afghan and foreign troops, were arrested from a house by members of the Quick Reaction Force.
