2 major Japanese sugar makers to unify production.


TOKYO, Oct. 23 Kyodo

Nissin Sugar Mfg. Co. said Monday Monday: see week.  it has signed an agreement with Dai-Nippon Meiji Sugar Co. to unify 1. (database, product) Unify - A relational database produced by Unify Corporation.

 their sugar production for cost reduction.

Joint sugar production will begin in July 2002 at Dai-Nippon's subsidiary, Higashi Nippon Sugar Co., in Chiba Prefecture Chiba Prefecture (千葉県 Chiba-ken .

Nissin will acquire a total of 1,600,000 shares in Higashi Nippon from Mitsubishi Corp. and another shareholder and 800,000 shares to be issued by Higashi Nippon Sugar through private placement.

The acquisition of 2,400,000 shares for 4,961 million yen will make Nissin a 50% owner of Higashi Nippon. Dai-Nippon, which currently has a 60% stake in the subsidiary, will hold the remaining 50%.

Higashi Nippon will upgrade its manufacturing facilities at a cost of 10 billion yen. Its capacity will be 330,000 tons a year.
