2 WOUNDED IN PAIR OF SHOOTINGS.Byline: Bhavna Mistry Daily News Staff Writer Two Antelope Valley shootings in two days have left a 21-year-old Lancaster man and a 17-year-old Palmdale youth hospitalized and two young Palmdale men in custody, sheriff's officials said Thursday. Ramon Zuniga, 17, was shot four times in the upper body shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday in an apparent drive-by shooting as he walked along a residential street near the Antelope Valley College campus. ``He was walking when a dark blue '80s-style vehicle pulls up beside him,'' said Deputy Dwayne Bednar. ``A passenger gets out, approaches him and fires five to six shots from a small-caliber handgun.'' Zuniga, who was walking west on 32nd Street West from Avenue J-8, was airlifted to Providence Holy Cross Hospital. He was remained in stable condition Thursday and was expected to be released soon. Another 19-year-old Palmdale man was arrested early Thursday morning after an apparent accidental shooting left a 21-year-old man hospitalized, sheriff's officials said. Deputies arrested Thomas Martinez after he was seen walking away from the 37700 block of 52nd Street East shortly after 3:30 a.m., minutes after Marcos Avina of Palmdale was shot. ``They were horseplaying with a gun,'' said Deputy Marty Shearer. ``The gun went off, striking Avina once in the stomach.'' Avina was transported to the Antelope Valley Hospital following the shooting. He was listed in good condition Thursday. Martinez was being held at the Lancaster Sheriff's Station in lieu of $30,000 on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. |
