2 WOMEN DIE IN A.V. COLLISIONS ALCOHOL SUSPECTED OF PLAYING A ROLE IN BOTH CRASHES.Byline: Karen Maeshiro Staff Writer LANCASTER - Two women were killed in separate traffic collisions about 30 minutes apart, and authorities say alcohol may have played a role in both crashes, sheriff's deputies said Monday. Maricela Ramos, 42, of Palmdale was killed in the first collision, about 8 p.m. Sunday, when her car was hit broadside at Avenue J and 40th Street West by a pickup truck that ran a stop sign. The second crash occurred about 8:30 p.m. on Sierra Highway Sierra Highway is a road in Southern California, United States. It runs from Tunnel Station near the north limit of the City of Los Angeles, where it intersects with San Fernando Road and Foothill Boulevard, as well as Interstate 5, and continues north to Mojave, mostly paralleling , south of Avenue H, fatally injuring Janney Phillips, 42, of Lancaster, who was a passenger in a car that rear-ended a disabled car in the road, deputies said. ``It's an anomaly,'' traffic investigator Dennis Campbell said. ``Two different parts of town, two different kinds of collisions. The only common thread is alcohol.'' In the first crash, authorities said a 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck Chevrolet has produced full sized pickup trucks under many nameplates and platforms:
Robert K. Morgan (July 31 1918 - May 15 2004) was a United States Air Force colonel and pilot, from Asheville, North Carolina, and the commander of the B-17 Flying Fortress , 43, of Lancaster failed to stop for a stop sign and struck a 1993 Ford Escort Over the years, the name 'Ford Escort' has been used for several models. A half-hour later, a 1991 Mitsubishi driven by Juan Velasquez, 22, of Lancaster was struck from the rear by a 1993 Ford driven by William Wade
Deputies said the Mitsubishi was experiencing engine trouble and may have been stranded on Sierra Highway. Wade was unable to avoid the disabled car and crashed into it, knocking the Mitsubishi off the road into a nearby drainage culvert. Wade then lost control of his car, which careened into the same culvert and came to rest several hundred feet farther south, deputies said. Phillips, a passenger in Wade's car, suffered major injuries. She was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital where she later died.
