SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - Two West Hills men were killed early Friday when their speeding truck went out of control and slammed into a tree in the center divider, officials said.

The driver, Shane Connaughton, 21, and his passenger, Kevin Baustert, 20, were pronounced dead at the scene of the 2:23 a.m. crash at Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  Avenue near Hubbard Street Hubbard Street is a road in Chicago, Illinois named for early settler Gurdon Saltonstall Hubbard. Where Hubbard Street passes over the Kennedy Expressway, the Expressway enters a tunnel made up of surface streets known as colloquially as "Hubbard's Cave. , authorities said.

``Obviously, high speeds in a commercial area are danger any time,'' said Simi Valley police Sgt. Bob Gardner. ``This is dramatic evidence of that.''

Preliminary estimates show that Connaughton's white 1999 Dodge pickup was traveling 75-85 mph in a 40 mph zone, authorities said. Only Baustert was wearing a seat belt.

An autopsy showed both men died of multiple blunt force injuries, officials said. Police had not determined if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
