2 VALLEY TEENS ARE TOP VOLUNTEERS.

Mindy Lambert and Edon Cohen have been honored with 2001 Outstanding Volunteer awards from the Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Department.

Mindy, 14, is part of a family that plays together, working with her cousins - camp director Justin Borenstein and his sister, Jody, a camp counselor, at Mason Recreation Center in Chatsworth.

``A couple of years ago, I was a camper here,'' Mindy said. ``My cousins are fun to be with and I am really close to them, and I look up to them.''

The Chatsworth High sophomore said it was the influence of her cousins that led her to volunteer. ``I really like being with the kids,'' she said.

Mindy was honored for helping park counselors plan activities and supervise children for two summers.

Justin Borenstein, 20, said he and his sister, 22, have been going to the park since their preschool days and their participation has continued as adults.

``My sister worked here, then I started working here part time after high school; now I am a year-round camp director,'' he said.

Edon, from Tarzana, also received the volunteer award.

The 16-year-old is a volunteer at the Balboa Sports Center, president of the Valley Teen Committee for the Recreation and Parks Clean and Safe Places Program and a coach for the basketball and the flag football programs.

Chatsworth resident Sossy Baghdoian is going to Geneva, Switzerland, representing Armenia in the Fete d'Excellence.

The 54-year-old said she was invited as a fashion designer and Christian Armenian.

Founded by Wilda Spalding, Fete d' Excellence encourages partnerships for ethical business and humanitarian ventures including education, entertainment, environment and product-driven projects designed to encourage and enhance a spirit of excellence.

Seventy-three countries will be represented at the annual event.

Sossy's Originals are sold in specialty boutiques. She is also a custom designer.

Two young Valley men have been acknowledged for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Lake View Terrace resident Matt Fleming and Adam Candler from Burbank were honored at a ceremony held in Hollywood. Both are members of Troop 8 in Tujunga.

Fleming now works for the Church of Scientology in Hollywood. Candler has joined the U.S. Navy.

Local students who have earned college-sponsored Merit Scholarships will be awarded between $500 and $2,000 annually for undergraduate studies.

The students and high schools they attend are: Lino Manansala and Joan Shim from Agoura; Benjamin Applegate, Burbank; Jessica Brown and Jordan Segall, Polytechnic in Pasadena; Matthew Leeds, Calabasas; Devi Rao, Camarillo; Colin Legerton, Flintridge Preparatory; Biliana Veleva, Crescenta Valley; Jeffrey Tan, North Hollywood; Daniel Davis, Matthew Knee and Jonathan Brent, Harvard Westlake.

Also earning scholarships are Ani Pezeshkian, AGBU Manoogian-Demirdjian School; Daniel Wedge and Edward Wedge, Oak Park; Danielle Hubbard, Rio Mesa; Daniel Lorme, Saugus; David Butler, Thousand Oaks; Julia Thompson, Westlake; Amy Escobar, Ventura; Janice Chang, Van Nuys; and Corinne Harner, El Camino Real High School.

On the dean's list at Tufts University in Medford/Somerville, Mass., are several local students.

They include: Casey Mendelsohn and Daniel Abrams from Woodland Hills; Allison Collins and Michael Silver, Encino; Guy Friedman, Agoura Hills; John-Paul Ghobrial, Agoura; Erin Greenfield and Ilan Wisnia, Sherman Oaks; Meredith Gruen, Calabasas; Allan Rice, Tarzana; and Bruce Ngo, Canoga Park.
