Proctor declined to say what exactly triggered the killings of the husband and wife.

"The motive, in our opinion, was robbery," Proctor said.

Detective Marshall White said that on the night of the slayings, Jonathan Landau bumped into Smith at a local Hughes Market and Smith came over to the home.

"The one individual, Rickey Smith, was allowed in by Jonathan, and later on the suspect, Rickey, let the second suspect in," White said. The door had been locked previously, White said.

White said Jonathan Landau, wounded in the right leg and bound, feigned feigned

"He was hiding, he was scared - he sees his mother and his father shot, and he's shot - he's scared to death."

Police say the robbery and shootings lasted 15 minutes. The parents were bound before they were each shot in the upper body. No murder weapon has been found, police said.

Jonathan's brother, Jason, 18, was not at home at the time.

Police said that the Landaus' sons were not involved in the slayings and assisted detectives in identifying the suspects.

"There has been much speculation as to the involvement of Jonathan Landau and his older brother, Jason Landau," Proctor said. "Both Jason and Jonathan are strictly being treated as witness and victim in this case."

"I'm glad they did catch someone," he said, adding that his sons have been hit hard by the death of their mother and the father who adopted them. "They are pretty well shook up."

He said both boys had mentioned to him the name of their parents' attacker, but he did not ask too many questions.

"They just said, Rickey. I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

White said investigators searched five locations Saturday but were unable to locate Smith.

Michelle Charles, 17, a friend of the Landaus, said Smith had been living at a boys home nearby and was a frequent visitor to the Landaus' home.

"I'm so happy that they got caught," she said.
