2 TEENS DIE IN GAME OF CHICKEN ON PCH.

Byline: James Nash Staff Writer

NORTH HOLLYWOOD - An apparent game of chicken turned deadly for two North Hollywood teenagers who were darting in and out of traffic on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu late Sunday night, authorities said Monday.

Frank Anthony Reynosa, 18, and Abiu Pineda, 19, died shortly after a late-model GMC Yukon struck them on Pacific Coast Highway just east of Corral Canyon Road at about 11 p.m. Sunday, Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies said.

The two friends apparently were playing chicken with cars on a stretch of Pacific Coast Highway with a speed limit of 50, said sheriff's Sgt. Cally Barrier.

The driver of the Yukon, a 35-year-old Malibu man, was not cited, Barrier said.

Tearful members of the Reynosa family declined to comment to reporters gathered outside their home on Victory Boulevard in North Hollywood.

The Pineda family, reached by phone in their North Hollywood apartment, also declined to comment.

Los Angeles County coroner's spokesman David Campbell said Reynosa and Pineda were pronounced dead at the scene at 11:05 p.m.
