2 STUDENTS SUSPENDED IN COMPILING OF `HIT LIST'.

 pending an investigation of a so-called ``hit list'' they drew up containing the names of more than 30 students they don't like.

Kern Kern, river, 155 mi (249 km) long, rising in the S Sierra Nevada Mts., E Calif., and flowing south, then southwest to a reservoir in the extreme southern part of the San Joaquin valley. The river has Isabella Dam as its chief facility.  County sheriff's deputies say they will forward the findings of their investigation to prosecutors, who will review them for possible filing of charges.

``They had no intention of carrying out any violent act,'' Senior Deputy Bart Camps said. ``They made a list of people they didn't like. In light of recent events, people take this seriously, including our department.''

A parent of one of the students named on the list came to the Mojave sheriff's substation earlier this week to report the list's existence, deputies said. According to according to

 school officials, it was one of the two girls' parents who found it at home.

``A parent came into the station. She was made aware there was a list of students that other students had drafted. She referred to it as a hit list,'' Camps said.

Mojave Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts.  Assistant Superintendent Assistant Superintendent, or Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), was a rank used by police forces in the British Empire. It was usually the lowest rank that could be held by a European officer, most of whom joined the police at this rank.  Penelope Swenson said the girls were suspended Tuesday.

``Students who were on the list, the parents were contacted, students were talked with, and every effort is being made to completely assure the safety of students,'' Swenson said.

Swenson said the list contained threats, but she did not elaborate. Deputy Camps said the list did not contain death threats.
