Over the past month, Santa Clarita officials have received a high volume of complaints about AT&T's customer service, Stark said.

``We're trying to identify the level of dissatisfaction in the community and make it very difficult for the cable company not to take corrective action,'' Stark said.

The first meeting will be at 6 p.m. Thursday in the community room of the Jo Anne Darcy Canyon Country Library. The second will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 31 at the Valencia Library.

AT&T serves about 50,000 customers on the west side of the valley, while Time Warner, which covers the east side, serves about 25,000 homes.

Most of the complaints have been about callers being put on hold for inordinate periods of time by AT&T, a problem that a company spokeswoman said is being addressed.

Despite the complaints, city leaders have begun the process of renewing the cable companies' franchises, which will expire in 2003.
