Carjackers armed with semiautomatic handguns are targeting motorists in the central San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

Valley, southern California, U.S. Northwest of central Los Angeles, the valley is bounded by the San Gabriel, Santa Susana, and Santa Monica mountains and the Simi Hills.
, stealing 2001-model vehicles for their custom wheels, officials said Thursday.

The thieves, usually armed with semiautomatic handguns, have confronted at least five motorists in parking lots and side streets from North Hollywood to Van Nuys, demanding keys to the victims' vehicles. Police have recovered the vehicles - all stripped of their wheels - in the Pacoima area.

Police are troubled by the incidents and question why the thieves would use such violent methods for wheels.

The second suspect was 19 to 20 years old, 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall, 160 to 180 pounds, wearing a black T-shirt and black pants.
