When Ed Goodwin was hired on as a teacher in the Lancaster School District Lancaster School District may refer to:

  • Lancaster Independent School District, Texas
 in 1958, the district had 10 schools and 7,500 pupils.

Now, as assistant superintendent Assistant Superintendent, or Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), was a rank used by police forces in the British Empire. It was usually the lowest rank that could be held by a European officer, most of whom joined the police at this rank.  of educational services, Goodwin helps oversee the district's 15 schools and student population of 13,500.

``The biggest change is the addition of schools. We opened four schools during the year I was interim superintendent: Nancy Cory, Lancaster, New Vista Elementary and Lincoln,'' said Goodwin, a 60-year-old Lancaster resident.

Another administrator, Assistant Superintendent of Personnel Kay Wrye, who has been with the district for six years, also will retire in June.

 said. ``Dr. Goodwin has been here since 1958 or 1959 and started out as a teacher and became a principal and assistant superintendent and served as an interim superintendent for awhile. Kay Wrye has done an excellent job for the district, and he's a real hard worker. Both men will be sorely missed.''

Goodwin worked for the Lancaster district for 12 years as a teacher and vice principal, and then went to what it is now the Acton-Agua Dulce Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts.  for six years as its first full-time principal at two schools there.

Goodwin returned to the Lancaster district as the principal at Sierra School Sierra School is located in Santa Clara, CA. It is a K-12 school, placing several grades together in a single classroom. , then later transferred to become principal at Piute Intermediate School, which is now a middle school.

He has spent the last 12 years in the district office as assistant superintendent for educational services. In 1989-90, he served as an interim superintendent before former Superintendent David Alvarez was hired.

After retiring, Goodwin said he plans to do some traveling. He and his wife also want to move closer to their five grandchildren, who live in the San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay.  County area.

``It's been a tremendous experience, one that I will treasure,'' Goodwin said. ``It's something I've enjoyed, working in the field of education and having something to do with curriculum and having a positive impact on all the students.''

``It's time to do the things I want to do in life,'' Wrye said.

Wrye said he wants to travel and spend time in Alaska and the Canadian north.

``I like to fish and hike and take photographs of animals,'' Wrye said.
