 Officer Frank Sansone said.

Guerrero was driving at least 65 mph in the No. 3 lane north of Balboa Boulevard at 12:13 a.m., Sansone said.

Truck driver Arturo Trejo, 30, of Huntington Park, was ahead of Guerrero, going just 15 mph because traffic had backed up for road work. He was diverted into Guerrero's lane, Sansone said.

``Guerrero was overtaking the slower-moving Trejo,'' Sansone said. ``Without any apparent evasive action, Guerrero rear-ended the tractor trailer.''

The car slid under the dock bumper of the big rig and wedged against the rear axle of the trailer, the CHP officer said. Both men in the Toyota suffered massive head injuries and died.

The CHP was also investigating whether Guerrero was driving under the influence of alcohol, Sansone said.
