2 KILLED, 3 HURT IN CLIFF CAR CRASHES : RESCUED SISTERS' CONDITIONS CRITICAL.

Cars plunged off two Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Two sisters, ages 16 and 11, were plucked from the side of the cliff in a dramatic rescue.

They were in critical condition Saturday at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, said Clement Mapanda, a hospital administrative supervisor.

In Santa Monica, Jose Ruben Sanchez Perez, 23, of Hawthorne was speeding on Wilshire Boulevard about 2:30 a.m. Saturday when he did not stop at Ocean Avenue, barreled through a fence and plummeted down a 100-foot cliff, authorities said.

Police said he had two broken legs and extensive internal injuries.

Investigators suspected alcohol was a factor in the crash, said police Sgt. Harry Kutzbach.

About 100 people who were gathered in the parking lot saw the car careen off the cliff.

``It was indeed a miracle no one else was hurt and no other property damage occurred,'' Kutzbach said.
