2 HELD AFTER BRUTAL SPREE; BEATING, SHOTS INVOLVED BUICK.

Two young men were arrested Monday night on suspicion of being involved in a two-hour crime spree in which a Lake Los Angeles man was shot, a Marine was robbed and beaten unconscious, and two people driving home from work were shot at but not hit, sheriff's officials said.

Hugo Miranda, 19, of Littlerock was taken into custody about 7:35 p.m. in a Palmdale trailer park where a deputy had chased the suspects' car. A police dog found Mario Silva, 24, a transient, hiding underneath a trailer.

Bitten by the dog and slightly injured when their Buick crashed into a parked truck, Silva was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and released to the Sheriff's Department's custody, officials said.

Both men were booked on suspicion of attempted murder, robbery and evading a peace officer. They were being held at the Lancaster sheriff's station without bail.

Officials believe the crime spree began shortly after 5:30 p.m. on 106th Street East near Pearblossom Highway. Five men in a gray Buick passed a Honda Civic on 106th Street East, then pulled in front of it and blocked its path.

After the Honda stopped, the Buick's occupants, at gunpoint, pulled out a passenger, a 19-year-old Marine from Palmdale. They robbed him, took several items from the car and beat him unconscious, deputies said.

``It's highway robbery,'' said Sgt. Russ Hill. ``They basically just stopped him and robbed him right there on the street.''

The Honda's 19-year-old driver, a Pearblossom man, and a 14-year-old passenger were not injured. They drove the injured Marine to a hospital, where he was treated and released.

About 90 minutes later, the same men and car were believed to have been involved in a shooting outside a house in the 16100 block of Coolwater Avenue in Lake Los Angeles.

``Witnesses saw several men arguing inside of a parked vehicle,'' said Deputy Paul Ullman. ``A short time later one of the men in the vehicle shot one of the other occupants.''

The wounded man ran from the vehicle onto a neighbor's yard and the car drove away. The man, whose name was not released, was airlifted to Providence Holy Cross Hospital Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he was listed in stable condition with gunshot wounds to the neck and shoulder.

A short time later in the 9200 block of Avenue Q-12 in Littlerock, several shots were fired from a gray Buick at two people driving home from work. Neither was injured.

Following the second shooting - which had not yet been reported to authorities - a deputy spotted two men in a gray Buick traveling near 50th Street East and Avenue N and realized it matched the description of the car from the shooting in Lake Los Angeles.

The deputy followed the car to 30th Street East and Avenue P, where he attempted to stop the vehicle with the assistance of other deputies.

When the car failed to yield, deputies pursued it. The Buick finally came to stop at a Palmdale trailer park at 65th Street East and Avenue R when it crashed into a parked truck.

``One of the suspects was arrested immediately,'' Ullman said. ``One fled into the trailer park and hid.''

Deputies set up a containment of the trailer park and found the second suspect hiding beneath a trailer. A weapon was recovered.

Officials are still investigating whether the same car had been spotted at Littlerock High School shortly after 3 p.m. Sheriff's officials said a caller told them that five men in a Buick - one with a gun - were outside the school. The car was gone when deputies arrived.
