2 GUNMEN ROB COFFEE SHOP.

Byline: Bhavna Mistry Daily News Staff Writer

Teen-agers armed with shotguns staged a lunchtime robbery Monday of a downtown coffee shop around the corner from City Hall.

The two gunmen - one hiding his face with a bandanna and both described as 16 to 19 years old - entered the Cafe La Moore in the 800 block of Lancaster Boulevard while at least one accomplice accomplice: see accessory.  is believed to have stayed outside as a lookout.

``The suspects came to the store, produced their weapons and ordered everyone behind the counter,'' said Deputy Chris Keeling keeling

Sheriff's deputies cordoned off several streets around downtown and used a helicopter and a police dog to search for the robbers.

``Typically when a robbery occurs, the suspects will shed their clothing to disguise their appearance,'' said Keeling, who assisted on part of the search.

Officials were still investigating how many people participated in the robbery.

The two gunmen entered the shop from a rear door that opens on an alley and parking lot. They ordered the two employees and three customers onto the floor.

``I didn't know what was going on. I was caught off guard,'' said Lynette Moore, who operates the store with her husband. ``We thought they were kidding. I was in a daze, until (her husband) pushed me to the ground.''

The Moores said they opened the coffee shop in December and that this robbery comes as evidence of the dangers of running a storefront business.

``Small businesses are trying to survive,'' Lynette Moore said. ``And these knuckleheads come along with no value for life. They came in here with guns. I didn't know they were real. They could have shot someone.''
