Authorities said Walter Warren, 32, of Alta Loma was attempting to pass a big rig Big Rig was a punk band from the San Francisco Bay Area fronted by singer/songwriter Jesse Michaels. The pickup truck and the car were each traveling about 55 mph on the straight, two-lane highway, Gross said, and the driver was alone in each vehicle. The crash occurred about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday between the communities of Antelope Acres and Neenach.

The CHP and local enforcement officers have increased patrols on some stretches of Highway 138, but not at the west end, known as Avenue D.
