TWO police officers were gunned down at a pub yesterday as they investigated a gangland murder.

They were asking questions about the execution of convicted drug addict Zubair Munir, 20, when the gunman opened fire.

He hit the policeman in the stomach and his woman colleague in the thigh then escaped in a car.

A 23-year-old, found later with serious injuries, was arrested in connection with the shootings.

The officers, who had been making door-to-door inquiries in Ripponden, West Yorks, were not seriously hurt and were released from hospital after treatment.

Jobless Munir, who was well known to police, was found with a bullet in his head on moors a few miles from Ripponden on Sunday.

His body was discovered by hikers after his family from Huddersfield reported him missing a week earlier. Det Supt Paul Kennedy
