Neighbors said the house on Elkwood Avenue was the home of Lenore Edson, 38, who had separated from her husband Lee Edson, 39. ``She told me she feared for her life,'' said next-door neighbor Kim Fry, adding that she last spoke to Lenore Edson on Friday. ``I just know she's had problems with him for a while so (I assumed) she would take care of the problem. I'm beside myself. What do you say? You never would think it's your next-door neighbor.'' Stunned stun tr.v. stunned, stun·ning, stuns 1. To daze or render senseless, by or as if by a blow. 2. Russell Williams, another neighbor, said the Lenore Edson's car was parked in the driveway of the burned home and her husband's was parked a short distance away. ``Everybody pretty much has the same speculation'' about the identity of the victims, Williams said. ``Her car was in the driveway, and she never went anywhere without her car. His car was a couple blocks away.'' The blaze, reported at 8:37 a.m., is being investigated as a possible arson, said Ventura County sheriff's spokesman Steve Bourke. Lee Edson pleaded guilty to a spousal abuse charge Nov. 3, following his arrest Aug. 12, records show. He was sentenced to three years of formal probation Nov. 14 and was scheduled for a probation review hearing Dec. 14, records show. Deputy District Attorney Gilbert Romero, who prosecuted the case, was unaware of the fire but said that punishing spousal abusers does not always solve the problem. ``You can only do so much,'' he said. ``(Probation officers probation officer n. 1. The children are now staying with relatives, said Eric Nishimoto, a sheriff's spokesman. ``They have got a lot to go through,'' said Jo Burkholder, who has lived on nearby Oakmound Avenue for 26 years. ``I'm sure they are traumatized beyond belief.''
