2 BOYS ATTACKED AT BUS STOP; GANG MEMBERS ASSAULTED YOUTHS AFTER A CHALLENGE OVER TURF.

A teen-ager was in stable condition with a serious head injury Saturday after he and a friend were attacked with a golf club and a crowbar, sheriff's officials said.

The 17-year-old and his friend, 15, whose names were not released because they are minors were struck by two men Friday as they sat on a bus bench near Soledad Canyon Road and Sierra Highway at 8:45 p.m.

``(One assailant) made a statement that they were from a gang and asked what gang (the victims) were from,'' said Los Angeles County sheriff's Deputy Robert Gillis. ``They wanted to know why they were in their area.''

Officials said the 17-year-old told his attacker that he was ``not from anywhere'' before he was knocked to the ground by a golf club.

As the 15-year-old began to assist his friend, he was attacked with a crowbar by a second assailant.

Following the assault, the two assailants run off. The victims and a third friend ran to a nearby gas station where a motorist took them to a local hospital.

The 17-year-old remained hospitalized at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia. The 15-year-old was not hospitalized, officials said.
