2 ARRESTED IN GANG CRACKDOWN.

Byline: - Lisa Van Proyen

In their attack on gangs in the Northeast Valley, detectives arrested two homicide suspects Friday, including a 19-year-old man suspected of fatally beating a gangster a day earlier.

A second gang member suspected of fatally shooting a 15-year-old gang member on Sunday also was arrested later Friday, after police tracked him down in Mexico, authorities said.

The motive appears to be both gang rivalry and a fight over a woman, said Detective Frank Bishop of the Foothill Division. ``The suspect was not happy with the fact that the victim was interested in his girlfriend.''

Vasquez's death marked the sixth gang-related attack in the Pacoima area in two weeks. He was killed less than 24 hours after a community vigil to protest the recent rise in gang violence.

On Friday morning, Foothill detectives traveled to Calexico to arrest a suspect in another gang shooting that left 15-year-old Andres Reyes dead Sunday in the 12500 block of Filmore Street, near Hubert H. Humphrey Memorial Park in Pacoima.

Gregory White, 24, of Pacoima fled to Mexico after the shooting but later surrendered to police in Calexico, where he was turned over to police, said Los Angeles police Detective Jose Martinez of the Foothill Division.

As part of their attack on gang violence, police have also set up a drop- in center at Hubert H. Humphrey Memorial Park, which has a history of gang problems.

Authorities are also seeking a gang injunction against one or more Pacoima-area gangs. The injunction would ban gang members from loitering Loitering (IPA pronunciation: ['lɔɪtəˌrɪŋ] is an intransitive verb meaning to stand idly, to stop numerous times, or to delay and procrastinate.  in certain areas and associating with each other.
