Holland was arrested after police followed a trail of stolen credit card purchases and a handgun tying the suspect to the shooting death of Mildred Wilson, 65. Wilson was shot in the chest at 2:25 p.m. July 20 and left bleeding in the crowded parking lot at Poinsettia Plaza, at Telephone Road and Main Street. She later died at Ventura County Medical Center Ventura County Medical Center is a hospital in the city of Ventura, California, USA. It is a 208 bed acute care hospital. Police investigated the case as a carjacking and murder because Wilson's 1986 Ford LTD was taken from the parking lot and driven a short distance before it was abandoned along Telephone Road, blocking a lane of traffic. Officers recovered the white Ford with a maroon roof shortly after arriving at the scene the day of the shooting.

On July 26, Holland was stopped by Newport Beach police officers for an equipment violation. Arth said that as police were making routine checks, the driver sped away. Holland was taken into custody after a high-speed chase on suspicion of evading arrest, a parole violation warrant and carrying a concealed .25-caliber handgun.

Holland remains in the Orange County Jail, where the Ventura warrant was served on him. He will be transferred to the Ventura County Jail.

Police said they are still investigating both cases and encourage anyone with information to call (805) 339-4482.
