2 ARRESTED IN ATTACK ON DEPUTIES.

STEVENSON RANCH -- Two people were arrested Sunday after attacking sheriff's deputies responding to a 911 hang-up call, a sheriff's official said Monday.

Fredrick Dameon Thomas, 32, and Jamila Maiko Reese, 28, were arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.

Deputies David Martinez and Clarence Hodge arrived at the Holiday Circle Drive house about 5:25 p.m. and heard a man and woman arguing, said Lt. Mike Dunkle, acting commander of the local station.

``As the deputies approached, they asked the male to come out, and he declined,'' Dunkle said. ``He started backing up inside the house, so they followed him to make sure there were no weapons.''

When Martinez tried to pat down Thomas, the suspect hit him in the face, according to the sheriff's report. A struggle ensued and Hodge tried to come to Martinez's aid, only to be grabbed by Reese, who jumped on his back. At one point, Hodge drew his gun and pointed it at Thomas, who knocked him over as he ran out the front door, the report said.

Martinez caught Thomas outside the house and arrested him.

Another deputy was en route to the call when he lost control of his patrol vehicle on Stevenson Ranch Parkway, hitting a light pole. Deputy Hans Schneider was not injured.

Thomas' bail was set at $160,000; bail for Reese was $25,000. Both are scheduled to appear today in Santa Clarita Superior Court.
