2,000 TEEN-AGERS TO STRUT TALENT IN MUSIC, MARCHING.

Marching bands from throughout Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  will join four local high school bands Saturday as they participate in Rampage '96.

Hosted by Hart High School Hart High School may refer to:
  • Hart High School — Newhall, California
  • Hart High School — Hart, Michigan
  • Hart County High School — Munfordville, Kentucky
  • Hart County High School — Hartwell, Georgia
, the annual competition is expected to attract about 2,000 performers and 5,000 people in the audience.

``It's our biggest fund-raiser,'' said David Loeb David Loeb (b. 1939) is an American composer of contemporary classical music. He has written extensively for early music instruments such as the viol, as well as instruments from China and Japan. He teaches at the Mannes College of Music and the Curtis Institute of Music. , Hart band director. ``We look forward to this all year.''

Money raised at the Rampage event will pay for uniforms and band equipment, officials said.

Twenty-three school bands are scheduled to participate in the competition, including Simi Valley, Quartz Hill, Ventura and Oxnard high schools. Hart High will not compete, but present an exhibition at the end of the day.

``We do a special show every year,'' said Loeb. ``This is our 13th annual.''

Hart's presentation will be a combination of four musical interpretations mixed in with planned movements.

``It's a very lively, precision-oriented performance and very colorful,'' Loeb said. ``The color guards and pageantry also put on quite a show.''

This will be one in a series of band competitions throughout Southern California during the football season.

 Stadium at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state.
