1st Silicon Completes Qualification and Starts Production with Sharp Corporation for 0.13um NOR Flash Technology.

KUCHING, SARAWAK, Malaysia -- 1st Silicon (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., a premier semiconductor-manufacturing foundry, announced that it has completed qualification and begun production shipment of Sharp Corporation's 0.13um NOR Flash technology. Today's announcement represents a major milestone for the company.

The custom technology fabricated at 1st Silicon's state-of-the-art facility in Malaysia is dedicated to Sharp Corporation, a leading supplier of NOR Flash products. The 0.13um NOR Flash products with density up to 128Mb are manufactured using aluminium back end process.

Dr. John Nelson, Chief Executive Officer of 1st Silicon, "We are very proud to be the first foundry in Malaysia to be in production at the 0.13um node. Sharp Corporation is our initial technology partner and we are delighted to announce this successful third-generation technology transfer."

Dr. Nelson added, "Through close cooperation and partnership, the companies have developed the ability to rapidly transfer and bring to mass production NOR Flash technology. Based on 1st Silicon's experience in NOR Flash, we will continue to extend our embedded flash technology portfolio."

Apart from serving NOR Flash customers, 1st Silicon's business strategy also focuses on servicing the niche markets by offering embedded flash, image sensor An image sensor is a device that converts a visual image to an electric signal. It is used chiefly in digital cameras and other imaging devices. It is usually an array of charge-coupled devices (CCD) or CMOS sensors such as active-pixel sensors. , high voltage The term high voltage characterizes electrical circuits, in which the voltage used is the cause of particular safety concerns and insulation requirements. High voltage is used in electrical power distribution, in cathode ray tubes, to generate X-rays and particle beams, to  and automotive processes.

1st Silicon (http://www.1si.com) is a dedicated semiconductor foundry founded in 1998 by the Malaysian State of Sarawak. 1st Silicon's 200mm wafer fab facility is designed to cater up to more than 45,000 wafers per month at full ramp-up capacity for 0.25um down to 0.13um geometries. The Company offers volume production of digital and mixed-signal CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) Pronounced "c-moss." The most widely used integrated circuit design. It is found in almost every electronic product from handheld devices to mainframes.  technologies in 0.25um and 0.18um processes. 1st Silicon started production of 0.25um in Q1 2001 and 0.18um qualification in Q1 2003. 0.15um will go into production in Q3 2005. 0.13um flash is in production. The Company also focuses on niche markets by offering reliable and cost-effective embedded non-volatile memory, high voltage, CMOS image sensor A CMOS-based chip that records the intensities of light as variable charges similar to a CCD chip. Although initially used in less expensive digital cameras, the quality of CMOS sensors has improved steadily.
