 1st Infantry Division (Mechanized) Artillery out of Germany--the Redlegs of the Big Red One--are conducting full-spectrum operations in support of the Global War on Terrorism Terrorist acts and the threat of Terrorism have occupied the various law enforcement agencies in the U.S. government for many years. 1-5 FA Hamilton's Own is task organized under the 1st BCT as part of I MEF in the vicinity of Fallujah. The battalion is providing the 1st Division joint fires and operating as a maneuver task force.

1-6 FA The Centaurs transformed from a direct support artillery Artillery whose primary task is to provide fire requested by the supported unit.  battalion to a maneuver task force and currently is conducting full-spectrum operations in Baqubah. Task Force 1-6 is a true combined arms outfit as a Field Artillery and maneuver headquarters. Insurgents have tested the task force many times and met with failure. The Centaurs--in partnership with the Iraqi Security Forces--continue to create a stable and secure environment for the people of Ba'qubah.

1-7 FA First Lightning assumed a dual role as a maneuver task force and a Field Artillery headquarters. Demonstrating the flexibility of the Redleg Soldier, Task Force 1-7 is responsible for Bayji and Ash Sharqat.

1-33 FA Golden Lions, the 1st Infantry Division's MLRS/TA battalion, normally provides rocket and missile fires to the division. In Iraq, it is securing CEA, maintaining a responsive counterfire capability and performing forward operating base An airfield used to support tactical operations without establishing full support facilities. The base may be used for an extended time period. Support by a main operating base will be required to provide backup support for a forward operating base. Also called FOB.  (FOB) force protection duties.

The 1st Infantry Division Artillery remains engaged in both combat and stability and support operations Stability and support operations involve military forces providing safety and support to friendly noncombatants while suppressing and threatening forces.

SASO operations can occur in everything from natural disaster areas (earthquakes, storms and flooding) to insurgencies
 in Iraq, helping to stabilize a free Iraq and fighting the Global War on Terrorism.
