1ST EDITION GOYA PRINTS SET FOR DISPLAY AT COLLEGE.

VALENCIA - A collection of first-edition prints by 18th century artist Francisco de Goya y Lucientes will be featured at the College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  Fine Arts Gallery from Feb. 9 to March 19.

The special exhibition is part of the college's yearlong 35th anniversary celebration.

Goya spent two years creating the plates for ``Los Caprichos,'' a collection of 80 etchings originally published in 1799 and considered to be the Spanish artist's first important series.

``Los Caprichos'' reveals the harsh realities of Goya's world. As an artist of social protest, Goya created satirical caricatures that feature the church, the Inquisition, the Spanish government

 and the royal family. The series will be presented in its entirety. Also on display will be several impressions from editions printed posthumously.

Gallery hours are noon to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free; a $1 parking permit can be purchased in the South Parking Lot or Parking Lot 6. The college is at 26455 N. Rockwell Canyon Road.
