1998 Football Buyer's Guide & Directory.

The responsibilities for a football coach ordering equipment for the first time can be overwhelming. A dizzying array of products to choose from, budget constraints, the safety of his athletes, are just a few of the many issues a coach must tackle.

By following a few basic guidelines and investing time that will prove profitable, a coach can turn this purchasing process Purchasing Purchasing is the formal process of buying goods and services.

The Purchasing Process can vary from one organization to another but there are some key elements that are common throughout

The process usually starts with a 'Demand' or requirements
 into a learning experience.

Knowledge is Power. Learn the product lines.

Network. Network. Network. Talk to experienced coaches and athletic directors whom you trust.

Go to coaches clinics and conventions. Seek out exhibitors who sell the product lines that most interest you.

Take advantage of manufacturers' discounts by purchasing equipment in the off-season.

Know your priorities. If your budget is tight understand that the most expensive equipment is not always the best equipment. Do not sacrifice substance for style. Keep your players' best interest in mind.

Get your players properly fitted for equipment. It doesn't cost any more to do so.

Collegiate and high school athletic administrators across the country are also doing their part to stay better educated.

"When I send my football coach to a clinic, I make sure he brings back literature on all new product lines. I've also invested a lot of time in finding a sales rep that I can work with and trust. He has helped save me a lot of money and helps educate me, my staff and my players."
