1997 ATTENDANCE, REVENUE TOP GOALS AT VENTURA COUNTY FAIR.

 economy combined to generate greater attendance and above-average revenues for the 1997 Ventura County Fair, officials said Wednesday.

``Attendance and revenue were up - even beyond our budgeted expectations,'' said Michael Paluszak, general manager of Seaside Seaside.

Organizers said 270,257 people went to the fair this year, compared with 255,542 in 1996, a 5.7 percent increase.

Each of the primary income sources - admissions, concessions, carnival carnival, communal celebration, especially the religious celebration in Catholic countries that takes place just before Lent. Since early times carnivals have been accompanied by parades, masquerades, pageants, and other forms of revelry that had their origins in  and parking - exceeded last year's totals.

Admissions brought in $824,460 compared with 786,288.

Concessions brought in $456,806 compared with $411,752.

The carnival brought in $377,080 compared with $360,000.

Parking brought in $184,441 compared with $169,017.

``One, weather was improving,'' Paluszak said. ``Two, the economy is improving, and that results in more folks having more discretionary dollars - recreational dollars - and that's something we see show up in our budget at fair time. And we had an exceptionally strong entertainment lineup A criminal investigation technique in which the police arrange a number of individuals in a row before a witness to a crime and ask the witness to identify which, if any, of the individuals committed the crime. .''

He said the fair is the largest single source of revenue for Seaside Park, which has a budget of about $6 million this year.
