1994 DODGE RAM AND 1995 PLYMOUTH/DODGE NEON EARN POPULAR MECHANICS 'DESIGN & ENGINEERING AWARD'

HIGHLAND PARK, Mich., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The 1994 Dodge Ram full-size pickup truck and 1995 Plymouth/Dodge Neon received "Design and Engineering Awards" from Popular Mechanics magazine for outstanding achievement in the automotive field, and are featured in the magazine's January 1994 issue.
"The Ram pickup breaks new ground in technology with standard driver's side air bag and available four-wheel antilock brakes. Couple that technology to the bold new big-truck front end styling and the Ram truly sits apart from the rest of the pickup crowd," said Popular Mechanics Editor-in-Chief Joe Oldham.
"We recognize Neon for new efficiencies realized in the car's development process, costing millions less from concept to Job One compared to other new cars. It is a classic example of American ingenuity meeting its overseas competition head on," Oldham added.
The products were selected by the magazine's editors from thousands of nominations in various technologies: automotive, science and technology, electronics, photography, home improvement, boating, outdoors, and telecommunications.
The Ram's success has been validated with 14 commendations from magazines and more than 151,000 dealer orders -- or 75 percent of the plant's 1994 model year capacity. Ram production began this past July at the Dodge City Truck Assembly Plant in Warren, Mich.
The 1995 model Neon, Chrysler's all-new small car entry, is rivaling the Ram's early success with more than 57,000 total orders in the first two weeks that the cars have been on sale, which includes sales to Canada, product evaluation, fleet and fast feedback rental programs. Neon has already received six honors, including "Automobile of the Year." Production began Nov. 1 at the Belvidere (Ill.) Assembly Plant.
