. In conversations recorded at the jail, he was "dismissive" about the crime and its impact, she told Lane County Circuit Judge Gregory Foote. She said she will oppose any future request for boot camp by Maas.

In a statement to the judge, Maas expressed regret. He said he did not know children were in the car.

"It wasn't thought out," he said. "It was a stupid thing."

Foote reminded Maas that he had been warned by juvenile counselors and others that he would someday go to adult prison if he didn't change his life. Foote said Maas must now decide whether he'll continue a life of crime and prison because judges aren't likely to give probation to someone with his record.

"This is the day everybody said was coming if you didn't change your life, and you didn't listen," Foote said. "It's pretty much up to you."
