18,000 s/f education center opens at Intrepid Museum.


A celebration at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum last week marked the opening of the Michael Tyler Fisher Center for Education--an 18,000 square foot, state-of-the-art, educational complex created to benefit the children and teachers of the New York City New York City: see New York, city.

 public schools. Its mission is to promote qualities of leadership and responsibility in NYC's young people, and to provide educational workshops in areas of science and history to supplement their classroom learning.

"We are extremely proud to announce the opening of the Michael Tyler Fisher Center for Education," said Arnold Fisher, Chairman of the Board of the Intrepid Museum and grandfather of Michael Tyler Fisher, for whom the Center is named. The opening ceremony was highlighted with the presentation of a personal check in the amount of $500,000 from Karli and Jim Hagedorn, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Scotts Company, to help fund the Center's educational programs.

The three-level Michael Tyler Fisher Center for Education is comprised of classrooms, breakout rooms, and a 3,200-square foot, glass-enclosed meeting space that can accommodate up to 240 people. Instead of 'Reading, 'Riting and 'Rithmetic' which are the focus of the schools, the Center will focus on three entirely different "R"s--Respect, Remembrance and Responsibility.
