The second most populous country in the world, it is also sometimes called Bharat, its ancient name. India's land frontier (c. yesterday as millions turned out to vote. Bombers targeted civilians and security staff, and even snatched voting machines. The violence marred the first poll day in what is the world's biggest election. Dozens of voting stations were shut as anti-industrialist Maoist rebels struck at sites including Jharkand and Bihar. Analyst Mahesh Mahesh (m n.
