17 MICHIGAN RESORTS PLAN HOLIDAY SKIING

 DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Weather permitting, at least 17 of Michigan's 44 downhill ski facilities plan to operate all or part of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, but skiers are advised to call ahead before heading to the slopes.
 A telephone survey Tuesday (Nov. 23) by AAA Michigan shows the following areas plan weekend skiing with a limited number of runs open.
 NORTHWEST MICHIGAN -- Boyne Highlands at Harbor Springs and Boyne Mountain near Boyne Falls plan Thanksgiving Day openings if weather permits, otherwise, they will open Saturday. Nub's Nob north of Harbor Springs also plans a Thanksgiving Day debut. Schuss Mountain at Mancelona, Shanty Creek near Bellaire and Crystal Mountain near Thompsonville hope to get under way this weekend.
 NORTH CENTRAL MICHIGAN -- Caberfae near Cadillac could open Friday if weather permits. Treetops Sylvan Resort near Gaylord targets Saturday for start-up.
 SOUTHWEST -- Bittersweet near Otsego and Cannonsburg near Belmont plan weekend debuts if Mother Nature cooperates.
 SOUTHEAST -- Mt. Brighton may open Thursday and Pine Knob near Clarkston on Friday.
 UPPER PENINSULA -- Ski Brule/Ski Homestead, near Iron River, is open with a 12- to 24-inch base. Indianhead Mountain/Bear Creek Resort near Wakefield will open Thursday with a 12-inch base. Marquette Mountain near Marquette, open Friday, 18 inches. Pine Mountain near Iron Mountain, open Thursday, 10-20 inches. Mont Brier near Norway, open Thursday, 18-24 inches.
