17 CHINESE BUSINESSMEN VISIT PLAZA.

A delegation of Chinese business leaders toured the Civic Arts Plaza as part of a Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  trade mission Wednesday.

The 17 men toured the city's Civic Center just as 1,800 elementary school elementary school: see school.  children swarmed into the Probst Theater for a performance by the New West Symphony Orchestra which included solos by three Chinese-American students.

 in Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. .

Every member of the delegation hailed from the city of Xian in the Shaanxi Province, a state located in the Wei River Valley of Northwest China. Xian, with a population of four million, is largest city in the northwestern region of China. The province is one of China's chief textile regions, and several important archeological sites are also found there.

The delegates' day trip to Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley was part of a week-long visit to Southern California.

The delegates met with Thousand Oaks Mayor Judy Lazar; Mayor Pro Tem [Latin, For the time being.] An abbreviation used for pro tempore, Latin for "temporary or provisional."

A person who acts as a temporary substitute serves pro tem.
 Michael Markey; Council member Linda Parks; and representatives from the offices of Ventura County Supervisor Frank Schillo and Congressman Brad Sherman, D-Woodland Hills.
