1662 theatre rebuild is a historic act; EXCAVATION.


EXCAVATING a 17th century theatre was hailed yesterday as a major historic event.

The curtain was raised on Dublin's Smock Alley Theatre The Alley Theatre is an indoor theatre in the city of Houston, Texas, and hosts two stages. The main stage has 824 seats and is called the "Hubbard"; the more intimate, 310-seat stage, is the "Neuhaus." Nine towers and open-air terraces give the Alley Theatre a castle-like quality.  after more than 100 years as part of a multimillion euro project to rebuild the venue on its original site.

Director Patrick Sutton said: "Today is really a very historic and significant day.

"It's a day for the world to celebrate as it's about finding something absolutely unique which dates back to 1662.

"We've chosen to hugely respect the theatre and its value and the very stones that we're standing on.
