16 inmates learn masonry skills.


Toronto -- Sixteen inmates from the Central North Correctional Centre have completed masonry masonry: see brick; concrete; stonework; tile.

Craft of building in stone, brick, or block. By 4000 BC, Egypt had developed an elaborate cut-stone technique.

The practice was known in ancient Babylon, Egypt, Greece, and Rome, as well as in modern Europe and to some extent  program, administered by the Universal Worker's Union Local 183 Life Long Learning Centre, the correctional centre and the Simcoe County District School Board Simcoe County District School Board, also known as SCDSB is one of Ontario's largest public school boards, serving Simcoe County. The schools and learning centres are dotted throughout 4,800 square kilometres in Simcoe County. .

The program was funded by a grant by the Ontario government in an effort to increase the province's pool of skilled trades-people. The sixteen men, who are near the end of their sentences have received written offers of employment when they leave the correctional centre.

Lito Romano is the program director for the Local 183 Training Centre. Hanson Brick, the largest brick manufacturer in North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. , donated 8,000 bricks for the hands-on masonry instruction.
