 16 Days of Activism has been used to create a global movement to end gender violence by raising awareness Raising awareness is a common phrase advocacy groups use to justify a particular event, brochure or even the entire organization. Raising awareness refers to alerting the general public that a certain issue exists and should be approached the way the group desires. , addressing policy and legal issues, campaigning for the protection of survivors of violence and calling for the elimination of all forms of gender violence.

From 25 November, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women Women's activists have marked November 25 as a day against violence since 1981. On December 17 1999, the United Nations General Assembly designated 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (Resolution 54/134). , to 10th December, International Human Rights Day, a wide range of activities will take place in Windhoek and various regions of Namibia Namibia is divided into 13 administrative regions:

 to highlight the high rate of gender-based violence in our country and consider what must be done to change this. A full programme of events has been put together through a collaborative effort of many non-governmental organisations, the Office of the Ombudsman The Office of The Ombudsman, Hong Kong is an independent statutory authority, established in 1989 under the Ombudsman Ordinance, to redress grievances arising from maladministration in the public sector through independent and impartial investigations to improve the standard of public  and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare.

One of the many highlights of the programme will be the one-woman drama ME&U by Natasha Lamoela at Studio 77 in Windhoek--a show not to be missed!

Another highlight will be the panel discussion Women claiming their sexual rights, hosted by Sister Namibia and the Women's Leadership Centre.
