New York, March 23 (ANI): A rare dinosaur skeleton as much as 150-million years old failed to sell at auction, even though it was expected to fetch 500,000 million dollars.

The Jurassic Dryosaurus carcass was put up for sale by I.M. Chait Gallery at the Natural History Auction in Manhattan on March 21.

The highest bid of 220,000 dollars was made on the nine-foot-long fossil, the only second Dryosaurus skeleton in existence.

Jake Chait, director of the gallery, blamed the recession for the failed sale of the specimen, which was still available for purchase.

"If this was a year ago, the outcome would have been a totally different situation. The impact of the economy has been further reaching than anyone expected," the New York Daily News New York Daily News
