More than 15,000 Deloitte Consulting professionals are spending the day serving local communities in 87 cities around the world with projects ranging from teaching senior citizens in Copenhagen how to use the Internet and helping first-time homeowners in Detroit learn how to budget their household expenses to building a web site for a children's hospital in Auckland, New Zealand. The aim of these activities is to combine the firm's management know-how and human capital with the latest technology to stimulate learning, skill development and self-sufficiency in communities where Deloitte Consulting professionals live and work.

Known as Global IMPACT Day, the event is one of the largest corporate citizenship efforts of its kind ever held, unique in size, scope, and theme. IMPACT Day programs are planned in 35 cities throughout North America, 33 cities in Europe, and 19 cities throughout Africa, Asia, Australia and South America.

In the New York City metropolitan area alone, more than 1,000 Deloitte Consulting employees, working in cooperation with the New York City Public School System, will participate in a variety of activities focusing on both skill building and facility/infrastructure enhancement at 15 New York City public schools. On the high school level, skill-building workshops will focus on interviewing techniques and managing the college application process. On the grade school level, literacy will be the theme for the day with reading workshops for the students and book donations to each library.

Global IMPACT Day projects include:

-- Amsterdam - Assisting the Seal Creche Pieterburen to return rescued seals to
sea.

-- Atlanta - "Cyber Center" tutoring (Internet training) for adults
interested in improving their computer skills in addition to working with
elementary school students and staff on general maintenance and landscaping at
school buildings and community centers.

-- Boston - Facility enhancement at five residential homes for children to
include building and equipping a library, painting, and general landscaping.

-- Cincinnati - Helping senior citizens connect with family and long lost
friends through the Internet in addition to general home repairs and
improvements for senior citizens.

-- Chicago - Conducting a series of technology and Internet workshops at 10
public schools.

-- Mexico City - Installation of computer center and general maintenance
projects at the 2,500 student Ricardo Flores Magon Elementary School.

-- Minneapolis - Creating a "Trail of Hope" for children affected by
HIV/AIDS at Camp Heartland.

-- Oslo - Teaching IT classes and painting classrooms in a local school.

-- San Francisco - Building a school play ground at Bayshore Elementary School.


-- Seattle - Working with local environmental groups to restore salmon habitats
in addition to installing a high school computer lab and conducting
technology-training classes for the staff.

-- Singapore - Conducting career counseling at rehabilitation centers.

-- Thailand - Building and equipping a library at an orphanage.

-- Toronto - Working with the City Parks and Recreation Division to clean and
beautify the valley lands of the Don River.

-- Washington, D.C. - Teaching life skills and career development courses to
high school students.
