14TH ANNUAL 'TREVIRA TWOSOME' RACE TO BE HELD SATURDAY, APRIL 25
NEW YORK, March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The fourteenth annual running of the "Trevira Twosome" ten mile couples' race through New York's Central Park is set for Saturday, April 25 at 10:30 a.m. The race is sponsored by Hoechst Celanese Textile Fibers Group. Nike, Inc. will be a co-sponsor.
According to world-class runner Alberto Salazar, who is the international co-ordinator, athletics, for Nike, Inc., "As the premiere sports and fitness company in the world, Nike is proud to be co-sponsor of the 1992 'Trevira Twosome' ten mile road race.
"Nike already enjoys an association with Hoechst Celanese because we use the company's fibers of 'Trevira' polyester and 'BTU' polyester in our active apparel lines. Therefore, we are especially pleased to help sponsor the most prestigious ten mile road race in the world, and look forward to this year's 14th annual race," said Salazar.
In addition to the ten mile main event, called "an annual rite of spring" by race director Allan Steinfeld, there will be a second race, the "Trevira Two-Miler," also set for male and female partners. The two mile race will begin immediately after the start of the ten mile race.
"We're looking forward to very competitive races at both distances," says Steinfeld, who is also vice president of the New York Road Runners Club, under whose auspices the race is held. "After last year's world record for ten miles, we're hoping for yet another record in the main event this year." Jill Hunter set the world mark for ten miles in the 1991 race with a time of 51:41.
Ireland's Eamonn Coghlan, indoor mile world record holder and winner of the 1989 "Trevira Two-Miler," will enter again this year.
Special awards in the textile/apparel, working press and age group categories will be presented in both the "Trevira Twosome" and the "Trevira Two-Miler."
